The launch of the Advanced REACH Tool

In 2007 the European Commission launched new regulations into the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restrictions of chemicals; widely known as the REACH regulations.

Forming part of a wider collaboration with other European scientists, IOM developed a new chemical exposure modelling tool for these regulations, known as the Advanced REACH Tool (ART). A notable feature of the tool is the way in which it accounts for uncertainties within estimating chemical exposures by providing a distribution of values rather that a single number.

IOM’s role in developing this chemical model tool has been proven influential in dealing with the supply and distribution of chemicals to both industry and the general public alike.
