Keeping it cool on the London Underground

IOM conducted research for London Underground to identify ways to improve ventilation and reduce temperatures within underground tube carriages.

Part of the research saw IOM create a full-scale mock-up of the interior of an underground train carriage, which was populated with volunteers and used in a series of experiments within a climate chamber.

The results of the experiments were used to refine and validate predictive thermal models to help the London Underground prioritise those areas of the underground network that most needed cooling solutions, keeping locals and visitors cool whilst travelling on the tube network.
