Future proofing work for an aging population

One in five of the UK workforce are over 50, with that figure projected to rise to one in four as the population continues to live and work longer. IOM carried out a project in 2009 funded by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health to examine the impact of aging amongst older workers, including their workplace health and safety, and the health promotion needs of those workers.

The outcome of the project saw IOM develop a best practice guide on the management of older workers to help ensure employees have access to flexible working and support at their place of employment. With the research IOM undertook helping employers’ to respond to the challenges of an aging workforce.
