IOM strengthens Authorising Engineering capability with IHEEM accreditation

IOM is pleased to announce that Jerry Slann, Director of Authorising Engineering Services, has been awarded Authorising Engineer accreditation by the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM).

This recognised accreditation strengthens IOM’s ability to provide independent Authorising Engineer services across healthcare and other critical engineering environments. It reinforces our commitment to helping clients manage risk, maintain compliance and achieve the highest standards of technical governance.

For organisations operating complex and safety-critical systems, independent assurance is essential. Jerry’s accreditation provides additional confidence that IOM’s clients are supported by recognised expertise, practical experience and a deep understanding of regulatory and operational requirements.

Jerry Slann said:

“Achieving IHEEM accreditation is a rewarding milestone for me. Throughout my career, I’ve focused on applying practical, real-world solutions to complex healthcare engineering challenges. I’m pleased to continue supporting IOM in delivering robust, compliant systems that prioritise safety, performance, and best practice for our clients.”

Jerry is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). He brings more than 50 years of experience across industry and healthcare, with specialist expertise in occupational hygiene, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), and the validation, verification and microbiological sampling of critical ventilation systems.

His contribution to the sector extends beyond project delivery. As a founder member and former Chairman of the Specialised Ventilation for Healthcare Society (SVHSoc.), Jerry has helped shape industry best practice and professional standards. He is also a co-investigator on the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)-funded AIR SAFETY Programme, led by University College London (UCL), which is advancing understanding of ventilation and airborne infection control within healthcare settings.

Jerry’s accreditation further enhances IOM’s ability to support clients with Authorising Engineer services, compliance reviews, ventilation validation and technical advisory services. By combining independent expertise with practical experience, we help organisations navigate complex requirements, improve assurance and protect people.
