Response to NAHT Guidance: supporting schools with play sand safety

Recent guidance from the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) is advising precautionary action relating to a national safety issue involving some products containing play sand and the potential presence of asbestos.

As concerns continue around possible asbestos contamination in sand-based products and toys, proactive testing and expert advice can help schools protect staff, pupils and the wider community while investigations continue.

At IOM, our specialist services can support schools by:

  • Testing sand and sand-based products for asbestos contamination
  • Providing clear, expert analysis and practical guidance
  • Supporting schools to assess risk and take appropriate precautionary action
  • Helping prevent unnecessary asbestos exposure

Our experienced specialists can also provide independent advice on testing, handling and next steps where concerns have been identified.
