About Paul Smith
Paul is a Senior Occupational Hygienist with extensive experience in occupational hygiene, workplace exposure and health and safety regulation.
He began his career as an Environmental Health Officer before joining the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), where he worked as a Regulatory Inspector and later as a Specialist Occupational Hygiene Inspector for a total of 27 years. His work covered a wide range of industries and involved assessing chemical and biological hazards, workplace exposure and the effectiveness of control measures.
Paul has made major contributions to regulatory guidance and internal guidance for Inspectors in areas including metalworking fluids, isocyanates and surface engineering. His regulatory experience includes presenting HSE prosecutions in Magistrates’ Courts and appearing as a witness in Coroners’ Courts.
