The ergonomic description of machine controls
The first stage in the development of an ergonomic checklist for mining machinery and equipment is described. The evaluation method is being designed for the Mining Trials Branch of the Mining Research and Development Establishment (M.R.D.E.). It is limited to controls only and a working manual is being prepared.Following the introduction, the report contains two main parts: the Oheck List of questions (the pink pages) and the instructions to accompany the check list (white pages and diagrams, and overlays at the back). The Check List is designed to evaluate human factoi aspects of the controls, i.e. performance and safety. It consists of three sections: The first defines the machine and its controls, the second examines individual control suitability and the third assesses the control arrangement. The instructions to accompany the Check List give information relative to individual questions to assist the Engineer in making the assessment.
