A survey was made of the equipment carried underground by underofficials and men on ten selected faces in different areas of the United Kingdom. The results are presented in the form of a table showing the range of items carriedby each occupational group employed on the faces Only the cap lamp and self-rescuer were carried by all men. Developments in the portability of these two items would be the best means of improving the mobility of men underground in reducing the general load of personal equipment. “”
