Relative toxicological potency of dusts Part I
In rats, inhalation exposure to high concentrations of “low toxicity” dusts is known to overload the normal cellular processes of lung clearance, leading to inflammation and lung injury. In the workplace these materials are assigned to a single occupational control limit despite a wide range of chemical and mineralogical composition and consequently possible variation in their potential to cause adverse health effects.
