Pneumoconiosis Field Research: Environmental conditions at South Kirkby Colliery, 1976/77
This report tabulates respirable dust concentrations and comments on the composition of the dust at South Kirkby Colliery for the period April 1976 to March 1977. Information is given on methods of working, output and manpower.’Total’ dust concentrations are tabulated and those for face sites were, on average, nine times as high as the respirable dust concentrations. The colliery had a coalface mean respirable dust concentration of 3.4 mg/m3 the same as the previous year. The mean ash content of the respirable dust was 59. 4 per cent and the mean quartz content in sample 8.9 per cent (concentration 0.30 mg/m3).
