Pneumoconiosis Field Research: Environmental conditions at South Kirkby Colliery, 1972/73

This report tabulates respirable dust concentrations at South Kirkby Colliery for the period April, 1972 to March, 1973. Information regarding methods of working, outputs and manpower is also given.The colliery had a coalface mean respirable dust concentration of 4. 8mg/m3, the same as in the previous year. The mean ash content of the respirable dust was 52. 6 per cent and the mean quartz content 9.0 per cent (concentration 0.43mg/m3).Total dust concentrations are tabulated and were, on average, ten times as high as the respirable dust concentrations.
