Pneumoconiosis Field Research: Environmental Conditions at South Kirkby Colliery, 1969
This report describes environmental conditions at South Kirkby Colliery for the period December 1988 to March, 1970 and notes mining and geological factors bearing on the production of dust. The M.R, E. gravimetric sampler, type 113A, was again the sole dust measuring instrument.Mass concentrations and mineral contents of respirable dust measured with working groups or at face sites are tabulated in a series of face charts and summarised by face and seam. Details of methods of working, outputs and manpower are included in the report.South Kirkby Colliery had for this period, a coalface mean respirable dust concentration of 8.4. mg/m3 with ash and quartz contents of 56. 9 and 9. 39 per cent respectively (mass concentrations of 4. 78 and 0. 79 mg/m3 ). “”
