Pneumoconiosis Field Research: Environmental Conditions at Pentremawr Colliery, 1969
This report tabulates respireble dust concentrations and compositions for the period October 1968 to harch 1970 at Fentremawr Colliery. As in 1968, measurements have been made using the gravimetric sampler. Information regarding seams worked, outputs, methods of working, dust suppression and manpower is presented in a series of face charts, together with the associated dust concentration. At Pentremawr Colliery, coal is mined by hand filling methods. The coal face mean respirable dust concentration was 2.6 mg/m3. The ash content of the respirable dust was 23.9 per cent and the mean quartz content 2.9 per cent (0.03 mg/m3). The change in sampling method from ‘random collier’ to volunteers carrying their own instruments, which took place during this period is described. “”
