Pneumoconiosis Field Research: Environmental conditions at Linby Colliery, 1976/77
Respirable dust concentrations and compositions at Linby Colliery are tabulated for the period April, 1976 to March 1977. Information regarding seams worked, outputs, method of working, dust suppression and manpower, together with the associated dust concentrations is presented in a series of face charts.Total dust concentrations are also given, and on the average, were five times as high as respirable dust concentrations. The sampling of nitrous fume is described and the observations noted. At Linby Colliery the mean coal face respirable dust concentration was 4.6 mg/m3. The mean ash content was 61.6 per cent and the quartz content was 7.5 per cent (representing a quartz concentration of 0.35 mg/m3).
