Pneumoconiosis Field Research: Environmental conditions at Lady Victoria Colliery, 1974/75

This report tabulates respirable dust concentrations and compositions at Lady Victoria Colliery for the period April, 1974 -March, 1975.Information regarding seams worked, outputs, methods of working, explosives used, dust suppression, manpower and mean travelling times to faces, together with associated dust concentrations is presented in a series of face charts. At Lady Victoria Colliery the mean coalface respirable dust concentration was 3.1mg/m3 excluding preparation shifts. Including preparation and development, overall mean coalface respirable dust concentration was 2.5mg/m3. The mean ash content of the respirable dust was 43.2 per cent and the mean quartz content was 9.5 per cent (22 per cent of the ash) representing a quartz concentration of O.24mg/m3.Face total dust concentrations are tabulated, and were 10.6 times as high as the respirable concentrations.
