Pneumoconiosis Field Research: Environmental conditions at Deep Navigation Colliery, 1969
This report tabulates respirable dust concentrations and compositions at Deep Navigation Colliery for the period December, 1968 to March, 1970. All measurements have been made using the M.R.E. gravimetric sampler. Information regarding seams worked, methods of working, outputs and manpower, together with associated dust concentrations, are presented in the series of face charts. The coalface mean respirable dust concentration for the colliery was 6.5 mg/m3. The mean ash content of the respirable dust was 20.2 per cent and the mean quartz content was 2.6 per cent (concentration 0.17 mg/m3).The change in sampling strategy from “”random collier”” to volunteers carrying instruments for sampling at their own places of work is described. “”
