Pneumoconiosis Field Research: Environmental conditions at Coventry Colliery, 1976/77

This report tabulates respirable dust concentrations and compositions at Coventry Colliery for the period April 1976 to March 1977 inclusive. Information regarding methods of working, output, dust suppression and manpower is also given.Total dust concentrations underground are tabulated and for the coaling shift were, on average, nine times as high as respirable dust concentrations. The first nitrous fume measurements made at the colliery are described and the results discussed. At Coventry Colliery the coalface respirable dust mean concentration was 3.8 mg/m3. The mean ash content of the respirable dust samples was 33.2 per cent and the quartz content 4.9 per cent (representing a quartz concentration of 0. 18 mg/m3).
