Ergonomic guidelines for the design of computer-based information systems

These guidelines are intended to assist and encourage the use of ergonomic principles in the design and development of computer-based information systems. The topics included were chosen for their relevance to the development of British Coal’s MIDAS SUMMIT software, but the recommendations are universal. The report is intended for readers such as programmers, who will not necessarily have had any previous contact with ergonomic advice. It is based upon a detailed review of ergonomic factors in computer systems and human-machine interaction, which is available from the Technical Information Officer at the Institute.
