Chronic bronchitis and coalmining in the United Kingdom.
Inhalation of coal dust has the potential to cause both mucus hypersecretion and airways obstruction. However, clinical experience and studies of working miners suggest that the effect of dust exposure in causing airway obstruction, under current working conditions in Britain, is not as great as that of cigarette smoking.
