Overview

For over 50 years IOM have been at the forefront of research to understand and mitigate a wide range of occupational and environmental health risks. Our aim is to improve people’s safety and wellbeing in all aspects of their life.

Our team of engineers work within workplaces and healthcare environments to help monitor and improve staff & patient safety.

We are currently looking to expand our UK team of experienced workplace protection engineers particularly for our clients in the south of England.  Location can be flexible, however candidates based south of Birmingham and surrounding areas would be at an advantage.  All candidates will be expected, at times, to travel extensively across the UK as part of their role.

The role will involve delivering consultancy excellence for our clients as well as providing professional and technical support internally and externally.  Ideal candidates would be technical engineers, or specialists in the field of Health & Safety, Ventilation or Maintenance, who are looking to expand their skills into occupational hygiene & healthcare ventilation.

Our team provides a wide range of services as follows:

  • Validation and verification of critical verification systems, such as operating theatres, mortuaries, endoscopy, and pharmacies
  • Measurement and quantification of airflows
  • Particle counting & microbiological sampling
  • Filter efficiency testing & noise measurements
  • Auditing of air handling units
  • COSHH Exposure Monitoring and Assessments
  • Workplace and Environmental Noise Assessments
  • Local Exhaust Ventilation Testing
  • Hand Arm Vibration Monitoring
  • Respirator Face Fit Testing
  • Indoor Air Quality Assessments
  • Legionella Risk Assessments

As part of our service provision, you will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out site-based work
  • Comparison and interpretation of the results against recognised standards (UKAS knowledge and experience would be an advantage)
  • Preparing, writing and reviewing technical reports
  • Costing work and providing technical expertise to support the preparation of bids & tenders
  • Assisting with IOM Training Courses for clients
  • Scheduling work and ensuring on-time service delivery
  • Maintaining key accounts and building relationships with clients

You will undertake comprehensive in-house training combined with hands on practical site experience delivered by our Senior Engineers. If not already qualified, you will also be able to work towards attaining recognised industry qualifications which will be funded for you.  Typical vocational courses provided include:

-      Competent Person (CP) Ventilation
-      Authorised Person (AP) Ventilation
-      BOHS certificate & diploma

This is an exciting opportunity to join an exceptional team of engineers, expanding engineering knowledge across both occupational hygiene and ventilation disciplines.   The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and able to work with clients and colleagues at all levels, enjoy working as part of a team but able to work remotely, on their own initiative, and possess excellent verbal, numerical, written and problem-solving skills.

This role will involve weekend working and travel throughout the UK, therefore you must be willing to be flexible to travel frequently, including spending time away from home when required.  A full driving clean licence is essential.
