Nathan Baker

CEO

Nathan joined IOM from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) where, as part of the executive team, he drove the transformation of the Institution’s purpose to refocus on delivering social value through the sharing of knowledge and uniting around a common purpose.

His career has always had the enablement of high performing teams at its heart. Following an early career in insurance, Nathan joined the British Army where he commissioned into the Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment of Yorkshire. After exploring the world in service of Queen and Country he moved into industry, initially with a learning and development focus. Having re-designed the learning programmes for the UK arm of a €1Bn European construction product manufacturer, he became part of the Babcock International Group senior management team on a £3.2 Bn Public Private Partnership with the Ministry of Defence. It was here that he drove the transformation of training, incorporating the latest learning methodologies and technologies.

As well as operational and contract delivery Nathan was part of Babcock’s procurement synergy team, prior to getting involved in strategy development. He was the Strategy and Development Director for the Sector Skills Council for the energy and utilities sectors before moving to the ICE as Director of Engineering Knowledge. His broad experience of public, private and not-for-profit sectors has come together in his role at the IOM leading the value realisation programme.

Nathan was made an Honorary Professor in Computing, Engineering and Media by DeMontfort University in 2019. He is a member of the Management Board of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and sat on the Chartered Chemist Review Working Group at the Royal Society of Chemistry.
