Face Fit (Respiratory Protective Equipment)

A UK Leader in RPE Testing

Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) may be required when working with hazards such as dusts, asbestos and other fibres, respiratory sensitisers, bioaerosols and public health hazards such as the flu virus.  It is a legal requirement that individuals are face fit tested for tight fitting RPE such as filtering face pieces, half masks, and full face mask respirators that they may be required to use.  The IOM’s face fit service is delivered by Fit2Fit qualified staff with more than 15 years of experience. Tests are carried out either on the client's premises or at our headquarters in Edinburgh.  Our high quality service includes individual guidance and training on the use of RPE, and in the event of a fit failure, advice to enable the individual to continue working.  Typically the test and associated training takes 30 minutes per individual.

IOM provides independent advice to employers on the appropriate choice and use of RPE for their workplace and assists them in compliance with Regulations 9 and 12 of COSHH and Regulations 10, 11 and 12 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations. For clients considering setting up their own, in-house face fit testing programme, we offer training that covers the scientific background and legal framework relating to RPE, operation and maintenance of the Portacount instrument, how to conduct a test, trouble shooting and management of an RPE fit test programme.
