IOM: Analytical News - Issue 1
IOM Analytical Services is branching out from its established position as a leading provider of analyses to support occupational hygiene. In a new venture with Edinburgh Crystal, we have started routine testing for lead leached from glassware. There are strict guidelines for manufacturers of glassware and ceramic ware that come into contact with food. They are intended to limit the levels of lead (lead crystal) and cadmium (ceramics) that may enter food.
Exposure to these metals can cause adverse health effects including damage to the kidneys, bones and central nervous system. The IOM analytical staff, who routinely carry out analysis for lead in water, offered to analyse lead released into a solution from some of Edinburgh Crystal's glassware using the prescribed method ISO 7086/1. The IOM was able to deliver a significantly better quality of service at a lower cost than Edinburgh Crystal's previous suppliers.
