Working Late: strategies to enhance productive and healthy environments for the older workforce

Working Late
The New Dynamics of Ageing Research Programme has funded a four-year collaborative research project led by Prof Cheryl Haslam at Loughborough University. The multidisciplinary research team, which includes the IOM, will develop interventions and innovative solutions to support all workers in healthy active ageing. The multidisciplinary research team comprises the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce; The Age and Employment Network; COPE Occupational Health Services; Institute of Employment Studies; Transport Research Laboratory; British Occupational Health Research Foundation; Department for Work and Pensions and IOM.
A description of the areas to be addressed is presented below.
Work Packages
WP1 - develop and utilise a model of continuous active engagement with user groups, older workers and non-academic experts to ensure that the research is informed by the views, experience and expertise of stakeholders.
WP2 - examine work participation, impact of age discrimination legislation and interactions between work, family commitments and the journey to work.
WP3 - identify best practice in occupational health provision and develop new interventions to promote the health and workability of workers across the lifespan.
WP4 - develop design models for an inclusive workplace seeking to optimise health, wellbeing, safety and productivity of workers of all ages.
