First registration deadline for REACH

Although still 18 months away, the 1 December 2010 Registration deadline is fast approaching for the following phase-in substances:

  • Substances manufactured or imported in quantities above 1000 tonnes a year;
  • Carcinogenic, Mutagenic or Reprotoxic (CMR) substances category 1 and 2 manufactured or imported at or above 1 tonne a year;
  • Substances classified as dangerous for the aquatic environment, and classified as R50/53, and manufactured or imported at or above 100 tonnes a year.

The registration process requires manufacturers and importers of substances to gather information on the environmental and health properties of their substances. They must assess the risks arising from the uses of their substances and ensure that these risks are properly managed. To demonstrate that this has been done, manufacturers and importers need to submit a registration dossier containing a technical dossier and, for substances produced/imported in quantities of 10 tonnes or more per year, a Chemical Safety Report (CSR). If as a result of pre-registration, you are enrolled in a Substance Information Exchange Forum (SIEF), you will be required to share data with other SIEF members and contribute to the preparation of a joint submission containing the components of the registration dossier that are common to all SEIF members.

The IOM has extensive experience undertaking chemical risk assessments and compiling the supporting data. We have supported industry through the Existing Substances risk assessment process that preceded REACH, and are now helping clients to comply with the requirements of  REACH . Given our experience, we are ideally placed to help you prepare your registration dossiers and Chemical Safety Reports. Our services are tailored to match your needs, so whether you would like us to help you prepare your registration dossier, help to facilitate your SIEF or just need advice on the process, we can help.
