The HSE publishes a new strategy for health and safety in Britain

HSE Strategy Consultation
HSE is running a three month consultation process on its new strategy and it is calling on interested parties to provide comments on the proposal. The strategy identifies goals in the following key areas:
- the need for strong leadership;
- building competence;
- involving the workforce;
- creating healthier, safer workplaces;
- customising support for SMEs;
- avoiding catastrophe; and
- taking a wider perspective.
IOM supports the renewed commitment from HSE to “specifically target key health issues and to identify and work with those bodies best placed to bring about a reduction in the number of cases of work related ill health.” We have previously argued that HSE should put more effort into occupational health and we hope that this strategy signals a change in emphasis towards prevention of ill health from work.
