New data on the number of mesothelioma deaths in Britain

The Health and Safety Executive have published new information on the number of deaths from mesothelioma in Great Britain. This new analysis of the information in the Mesothelioma Register shows that in 2004, the last year for which information is available, there were 1,969 deaths from mesothelioma. Since 1985 there have been over 25,000 deaths from this disease in Britain. Asbestos exposure continues to be the biggest cause of occupational cancer, particularly in areas of the country where there was shipbuilding, railway carriage manufacturing and manufacturing of asbestos products.
