Health impact assessment for proposed London LEZ

IOM and AEAT have been recently completed a health impact assessment (HIA) of the proposed designation of Greater London as a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) for Transport for London (TfL).

The introduction of an LEZ would lead to better air quality in London and a corresponding improvement in respiratory and cardiovascular health but could also lead to unintended negative consequences. The HIA benefited from stakeholder consultation. Stakeholders were able to highlight issues such as the difficulties that the LEZ may pose for the voluntary transport sector who provide essential services for many disabled and elderly people.

Dr Alison Searl, Director of Analytical Services was a major contributor to the HIA, and the IOM are delighted to have such close involvement with this landmark project.
