Health Impact Assessment Guide on Greenspace

The IOM Centre for Health Impact Assessment (IOM CHIA) has been commissioned by greenspace scotland to support the preparation of a HIA guide on greenspace proposals and projects.

Greenspace scotland is working in partnership with NHS Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage and a steering group of partner agencies to develop this guide. They have already commissioned a critical literature review, which is being undertaken by the University of York.

This guide will be the third in a series of Scottish guides on HIA. The other two are:

  • HIA guide to housing improvements(May 2003)
  • HIA guide to transport interventions(October 2007)

  • IOM CHIA's work will involve:
    1. Preparing case studies to illustrate the use of HIA in practice
    2. Carrying out a review of policies relating to greenspace
    3. Preparing guidance on how to undertake HIA of greenspace proposals and projects
    4. Co-ordinating a peer review process on the draft guidance
    5. Preparing a final report and guidance document
