Dr Joanne Crawford, Senior Consultant Ergonomist at IOM recently visited the University of Witswatersand to teach on the Ergonomics Module of the Master of Public Health (Occupational Hygiene).  The course is run jointly by the National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH) in Johannesburg and the Wits School of Public Health. It is open to individuals who intend to work in occupational health services or practice as an occupational hygienist.

Joanne originally helped to develop the module with NIOH staff and she has continued her association with the course.   The module, now in its third year, covers physical and cognitive ergonomics, and is taught by a mixture of staff from Wits University and local industry.  Students on the course are a mix of professionals, including occupational hygienists, from various industries and nationalities. IOM's involvement with the course has offered us opportunities to build relationships with occupational health professionals in Southern Africa.
