DSE Assessor Training

22nd October 2008

IOM HQ Edinburgh

This one day course provides participants with all the necessary training to competently assess DSE (VDU) workstations for possible risks to health and for compliance with the Schedule of minimum requirements.

By the end of the course, participants will:

  • have an awareness of the provisions of the DSE Regulations, their interpretation and application;
  • have a knowledge of the possible risks to health associated with VDU use;
  • know the principles of good workstation layout, posture and work organisation to minimise these health risks;
  • be able to conduct a competent assessment of VDU workstations for compliance with these Regulations;
  • be able to provide basic guidance to VDU users on correcting any deficiencies identified (risk reduction);
  • know the provisions within the organisation for reporting ill-health, deficiencies in the workstation or environment, and the structure within which the assessments will be conducted;
  • be aware of further sources of help and advice where needed.

    Course material will be provided for reference. We will also provide risk assessment and action checklists which assessors can use. Participants will also receive a certificate of attendance on the course from the IOM.

    The course covers both theory and practical assessment where assessors can apply their knowledge to the physical working environment*.

    Course size is usually limited to 10-12 people to allow full participation and involvement of all delegates at a cost of £200 per person. An interactive day is encouraged, with delegates invited to ask questions so they can apply the training to their work situations. Lunch will be provided.

    For further information contact Dr Joanne Crawford, Senior Consultant Ergonomist on 0131 449 8037 or Joanne.crawford@iom-world.org or alternatively Emma Michalski on 0131 449 8006 or Emma.michalski@iom-world.org.

    * With a minimum of 5 participants, this training course can be provided in your company's premises to allow for assessors to practice in a familiar environment. The course will only run if a minimum number of delegates apply to attend.
