New sampler to assess dermal exposure during wet working
IOM scientists publish details of a new monitoring device to help measure the risks of irritant contact dermatitis from working with water.
In the UK 30% of cases of occupational dermatitis are associated with wet working or exposure to aqueous mixtures. Scientists believe that the duration and frequency that the hands are wet are the key determinants of risk. IOM has developed a practical device to measure these parameters and we believe that it can be used to help assess the risk of contact dermatitis.
Details of the work are published in the journal the Annals of Occupational Hygiene. Get further details form our Online Library or from the journal website... http://annhyg.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/51/1/13
The results will also be presented at a major scientific conference to be held in Golden, Colorado in June 2008. Details of the conference can be found at the website... http://www.mines.edu/outreach/cont_ed/oeesc/
