IOM investigates carbon emissions
We have recently made a preliminary assessment of our carbon footprint. This work suggested that about 50% of our emissions are associated with our building (heating, lighting and other power consumption), 25% with travel to work and 25% in travel to remote locations for work.
We would like to better understand the causes of our carbon emissions and what strategies are open to us to reduce these.
Over the next three months we will undertake a through review of our energy use. We will:
- make a reliable estimate of IOMs current carbon footprint;
- identify the electrical power consumed by key items of equipment and our rate of gas consumption for heating;
- identify ways to reduce IOMs carbon footprint, and
- identify any barriers to implementation of these measures and suggest strategies to overcomes them.
