Social Media in Relation to Occupational Hygiene

Max Lum

Dr Max Lum delivering the Warner Lecture

At the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) annual conference in Eastbourne, the Warner lecture was delivered by Dr Max Lum from the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The topic of his lecture was Social Media in Relation to Occupational Hygiene – Is MySpace really our space. Dr Lum described the NIOSH approach to new media such as blogs, podcasts, social networking sites such as Facebook, and Wikis. Delivering key messages via different media was seen to have benefits in widening the audience and enhancing the quality of the communication.

NIOSH sponsors social networking sites on topics such as fire fighter safety and Max produces a microblog on general matters of occupational safety and health –
