REACH compliance for SMEs
The Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation has been headlined as a major piece of chemicals regulation. The recent registration deadline in November 2010 was of major importance to the chemicals sector. Obligations under REACH, however, extend far beyond just the chemicals sector and continue well beyond 2010. We encounter materials that will be affected by the provisions of REACH in almost all aspects of our daily lives and virtually all organisations will handle materials that are subject to REACH.
REACH has important implications for all those who import or manufacture substances, mixtures or objects and/or who use these goods in the manufacture of other goods or in applications such as cleaning, construction, interior decoration or printing. Many businesses are under increasing pressure from their customers to demonstrate REACH compliance as well as under a growing threat of regulatory inspection leading to enforcement as REACH becomes incorporated in inspection regimes.
IOM can assist you in identifying your obligations under REACH and in becoming REACH compliant. The pathway to achieving REACH compliance will differ by organisation but we can help with all steps of the process. We can also help you to identify and address potential threats to your specific operation such as the intended phase out of dangerous chemicals that are currently critical to your operation.
