REACH registration deadline
The end of November 2010 is the first deadline under REACH for registration of the most hazardous substances (e.g. CMR, PBT and vPvB) and those manufactured or imported above 1,000 tonnes per year.
Companies intending to submit a registration dossier to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in time for the November deadline should already have made arrangements to share data with others in a Substance Information Exchange Forum (SIEF). These companies should therefore be working with other manufacturers or importers of the same substance to prepare the joint part of the submission, and should also be working on an individual part containing information that is specific to their own company.
Organisations or SIEF’s who need assistance in finalising submissions, or simply wish to have an independent expert critically review the documentation they have compiled, should call the IOM now. We can review dossiers, advise on whether the appropriate arrangements have been made within a SIEF, and clarify any aspect of the guidance associated with the registration process.
It is not too early to be thinking about what further work is needed after the 30 November deadline. If there is a need to submit supplementary information in support of the initial dossier, now is a good time to be taking advice on exactly what data may be required, and how to approach the compilation and submission of this additional information. The IOM can help organisations make the right decisions and plan the work accordingly.
