Dealing with chemicals at work

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations have been in place for more than 20 years and the scientific evidence suggests that over this time industry has, in general, been consistently reducing exposure to hazardous substances. In a recent article, Dr John Cherrie reviews the challenges that remain in dealing with chemicals at work and highlights some of the key actions that employers need to consider. He concludes that, providing we all continue to focus on dealing with the important problems of carcinogens, asthmagens and dusty materials at work then we can make our workplaces even safer in the future.

The article appeared in the 'Safety Management' magazine, February 2012, British Safety Council,www.britsafe.org
