Edinburgh Napier University's Nano Safety Centre launch
IOM’s long-time collaborator and partner in Safenano has officially launched its Centre for Nano Safety. The centre, at Edinburgh Napier University, is one of the first in the UK to encompass four existing research groups working in nanotoxicology (human, environment and reproductive health and microbiology). The centre will act as a focal point for interdisciplinary nanoscience research in the UK and will provide a coherent base to influence policy and the development and production of safe nanomaterials. Edinburgh Napier University’s current research into nanotoxicology has resulted in collaborations in 27 European countries the US, Japan and Australia. The establishment of the Centre for Nano Safety will strengthen and improve Edinburgh Napier University as a world leader in nanotoxicology.
The Chief Scientific Advisor to the Scottish Government, Professor Ann Glover, officially launched the centre on 11 November 2009.
More information on the Centre for Nanomaterials Safety and their partnership with IOM’s Safenano initiative is available from their websites.
