Bedford Prize awarded to IOM scientists

The Thomas Bedford Memorial Prize, named in honour of the first President of the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), is given every two years to the author or authors of the most outstanding paper published in the BOHS scientific journal, the Annals of Occupational Hygiene.

The latest prize has been awarded for a paper describing the basis for a new exposure assessment tool developed for use with the European REACH Regulations – it is known as the Advanced REACH Tool or ART. More information about the Art can be found on the project website www. AdvancedREACHtool.com

The paper title is Conceptual Model for Assessment of Inhalation Exposure: Defining Modifying Factors, written by Tielemans, Schneider, Goede, Tischer, Warren, Kromhout, Van Tongeren, Van Hemmen, and Cherrie. (available at http://annhyg.oxfordjournals.org/content/52/7/577.abstract).

The main author, Dr Erik Tielemans from TNO in the Netherlands, will receive the prize at next year’s annual BOHS conference in Stratford upon Avon. Martie van Tongeren and John Cherrie are IOM co-authors of the paper.

IOM is involved in a number of projects to help industry comply with the REACH Regulations, some involving R&:D such as ART and others providing more direct consultancy support for chemical manufacturers.
