IOM win face fit testing contract with ScottishPower Energy Wholesale
ScottishPower Energy Wholesale have selected IOM’s UKAS accredited face fit service for all their staff using respiratory protective equipment (RPE) on sites across the UK.
IOM will provide a service that enables ScottishPower to comply with the current regulations and will include planning service delivery to meet ScottishPower’s requirements, undertaking the tests and reporting to individuals and site managers.
Face fit testing will be performed using TSI Portacount Plus Instrumentation and the N95 companion, where applicable.
Workers across a broad spectrum of industries including health care, manufacturing, minerals and construction are exposed to inhalation hazards and may require to use respiratory protective equipment (RPE). Different jobs require different types and levels of protection. To be effective RPE must be fit for purpose and fit the wearer (fitted masks/half masks) and be regularly checked, maintained and serviced, or it stops working. RPE, once bought, does not last for life. The HSE have published guidance to help in the choice of appropriate RPE (HSG 53: Respiratory Protection at Work). This guidance also lays out the requirements for checking, servicing, maintenance and replacement of RPE. All fitted RPE must be fit tested for individual wearers for the specific mask type used. Given that an individual’s features may change over the years – middle age spread versus middle age fitness drives – repeat fit testing every couple of years is advisable.
The IOM can provide advice on appropriate RPE and the required aftercare. We also provide a UKAS accredited face fit service.
