Aging and the demands of firefighting

The FBU commissioned Richard Graveling and Joanne Crawford of the IOM to write a scoping study, presenting an outline review of the medical and scientific literature on aging and the demands of firefighting. This is part of the activities by the FBU aimed at building up arguments and evidence to challenge attempts to revise the pension arrangements for its members. This review has been published on the FBU website: http://www.fbu.org.uk/?p=4425

Quoted on the website, Matt Wrack, FBU General Secretary said: "The FBU executive council believes that these reports should be widely read and the arguments in these documents should be discussed by all stakeholders in the fire and rescue service. Once again, I would like to reiterate my hope that these documents, which broadly support the arguments put forward by the union, also help to raise the level of discussion on pensions".
