BSI award to IOM consultant

Dr Richard Graveling, Principal Ergonomics Consultant and Head of Human Sciences at the IOM has recently been awarded a Distinguished Service Certificate by the British Standards Institution: "In appreciation of valuable contributions to the development of British, European and International standards".

Richard is one of a number of IOM staff who have contributed to the development of standards over the years and this work in developing standards is an example of one of the many ways in which the IOM seeks to help safeguard and improve the health and safety of workers in many different industries.

Richard's own work includes contributing to the development of standards outlining the basic principles of ergonomics; work in hot environments; and the ergonomics of PPE (including, in particular, the PPE ensembles worn by firefighters). He also acts as an ergonomics representative on groups dealing with standards on hi-visibility protective clothing and laboratory equipment such as glove boxes.
