Regeneration Masterplan HIAs and Healthy Urban Planning at IOM CHIA

Date: 15 August 2012

The IOM's Centre for Health Impact Assessment has strong HIA and healthy urban planning skills particularly in deprived regeneration areas. A new guide from the Town and Country Planning Association 'Reuniting Health with Planning: healthier homes, healthier communities' describes a number of case study areas across England two of which - Luton and Stoke-on-Trent - are areas where IOM's team were heavily involved in developing local HIA work and supporting the better integration and consideration of health in the local regeneration and planning process.

In Luton we were commissioned by the Marsh Farm Community Trust and Luton Borough Council to deliver a masterplan regeneration HIA for the Marsh Farm Estate while in Stoke on Trent we delivered a masterplan regeneration HIA for Middleportand City Waterside East. We also advised on how best HIA could be integrated into the planning process and how key challenges could be overcome that over time has led to enhanced cooperation between public health and planning.

If you would like to know more about our work on regeneration masterplan HIAs and healthy urban planning contact Dr Salim Vohra, Director of IOM CHIA.
