Asbestos

This study updates the estimated burden of asbestos-related mortality in the cohort monitored in the Great Britain Asbestos Survey.  It identifies risk factors associated with mortality.  Job categories in the study include those in the building and construction sector:

Noise

An American study published in the Annals of Occupational Hygiene evaluated noise exposures and the use of hearing protection devices (HPDs) among a cohort of construction workers from eight construction sites participating in a hearing conservation intervention study:

Disability

This paper, which involved a longitudinal study conducted among 850 construction workers, analysed the effects of work-related factors and individual characteristics on work ability.

Cardiovascular Disease

The aim of this German study was to investigate the association of body mass index (BMI) with work disability among construction workers.  The study found that obesity increases the risk of work disability owing to cardiovascular disease and osteo-arthritis.
