IOM Expert Witness Services - Asbestos Exposure

Since its formation, the IOM has been involved in the provision of expert opinion to assist the legal profession acting on behalf of both Claimants and Defendants in asbestos related claims in both occupational and environmental scenarios.

IOM's experts have extensive experience when providing opinion on the issues of asbestos exposure and our extensive library of literature including statutory instruments, guidance and research literature allows us to provide definitive opinion on issues such as dates of knowledge and historic exposure levels from processes involving the handling, use and manufacture of asbestos containing materials, long since banned in the UK.

The many hundreds of reports prepared for both Claimants and Defendants have included claims for compensation following the diagnosis of asbestos diseases including mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer resulting from occupational exposure to asbestos fibres as well as claims for compensation following the contamination of buildings and property where loss or damage has occurred both as a consequence of poor asbestos removal practices, a lack of effective asbestos management, or the accidental damage of asbestos containing materials resulting in contamination due to an absence of adequate information, instruction and training.

All of our expert team have been actively involved in the field of asbestos consultancy and/or fibre toxicity research work for in excess of 20 years, and have developed their reputations as consultants and experts both on a national and international scale. All of our experts are included in the UK Register of Expert Witnesses and have received training in the provision of written evidence and courtroom skills. They maintain their expertise by undertaking the appropriate continuing professional development and training.

Our experts are also supported by our in-house UKAS accredited asbestos consultancy and laboratory facilities which include the capability to undertake scanning electron microscopy and the analysis of asbestos in soils.
