IOM Asbestos Services
The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 bring together previous legislation covering the prohibition of asbestos, the control of asbestos at work and asbestos licensing. They also include the 'duty to manage asbestos' in non-domestic premises and stipulate the requirement for mandatory training for anyone liable to be exposed to asbestos fibres in the course of their work. The newly published 'Asbestos: The survey guide' (HSG264) is complementary to these regulations. When work with asbestos is being carried out the Regulations place a requirement on employers and self-employed workers to prevent exposure to asbestos fibres.
Optional Heading
Whether you work for a local authority, a government department, an educational establishment or a blue chip company, the IOM can assist your organization by delivering top quality and cost-effective services to help you manage the risks from asbestos. We have around fifty professional and technical staff involved in asbestos work at our Edinburgh, London, Chesterfield and Stafford offices. With UKAS accreditations for site and laboratory work from all our offices, the work of our asbestos staff is backed up by our in-house specialist laboratories at our Edinburgh HQ, which have extensive analytical equipment to assist with fibre and mineralogical analysis. The IOM's expertise is built on many years' experience of providing asbestos services to a diverse range of customers. The Institute has representatives on several HSE committees including the Committee for Fibre Measurement that deals with asbestos issues and has taken an active role in the development of asbestos analysis procedures.
