Prevention of occupational cancer
A new paper in the journal Occupational Medicine argues that the majority of deaths in the UK from occupational cancer are preventable. Dr John Cherrie, the IOM's Research Director and author of this paper, identifies several industries where workers are unaware of the risks, and where adequate controls have not been put in place. Free IOM Seminar to mark World Asthma Day
On 5th May, the IOM is holding an evening seminar on occupational asthma at its Edinburgh headquarters, to coincide with World Asthma Day. Workers in a number of industries continue to be at risk of developing occupational asthma, and this can lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) if unchecked. This seminar will examine what can be done to protect the health of workers and reduce the incidence of these serious illnesses.
