IOM to host exposure workshop for manganese industry

In December of this year, the IOM will host a workshop on manganese exposure at its Edinburgh headquarters. This workshop has been organised in conjunction with the International Manganese Industry (IMnI), and many IMnI member companies are expected to participate. At this workshop, the IOM will present the case for a standardised sampling method for airborne manganese in the workplace, and will also report progress on the development of a new database tool for the management of manganese exposure data.

Featured Services

Validation of operating theatre ventilation systems

The ventilation systems in operating theatres and sterile service departments play a vital role in the battle to control airborne infection in the hospital environment. The IOM has a specialist validation team, providing a UK-wide service in the validation and annual verification of these critical ventilation systems in accordance with Department of Health requirements.

Control of workplace exposure to peracetic acid

Peracetic is rapidly becoming a disinfectant of choice in the medical sector, partly due to its effectiveness against the SARS virus. However, peracetic acid is a toxic irritant, and it is therefore important to control workplace exposure to this agent. The IOM, in conjunction with SKC, has developed a sampling device for the collection of personal or static samples in the workplace. Coupled with HPLC analysis in the IOM’s laboratories, this enables workplace exposure to be assessed and controlled.
